England’s North: Don’t bother
Yes I am about to write off large swathes of a country in one go. Watch this, watch me do it right now, are you ready? Don’t go north of Nottingham. How does that feel? Because I feel pretty good about it. Even Nottingham has it’s low points and if my girlfriend didn’t live there I might suggest not going north of Birmingham (and when I move to London I’ll suggest not going north of…. London.) While you could argue that the lake district has its fair share of beauty (which it does) the cities and culture north of Midlands is sorely lacking.
Preston. Blackburn. Manchester. Hull. Liverpool. These are not names or places that inspire any kind of wonder, of excitement, or any kind of desire to go there. They are almost exclusively harsh, grey metropolises with little to offer in the way of culture. Stick to London travellers, and Cornwall of course, it’s for your own good.
